Birth with Dignity first started a program at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in 2017. Over the years our midwife team has grown and they are providing wonderful high-risk care to mothers in childbirth and also giving a high standard of perinatal bereavement care with stillbirth. Our leaders, Magdalene and Gladys have shown fantastic skill in supporting our team and our work there. Our Birth with Dignity team is a leader in the country modeling and teaching this high standard of care.

Testimonial

Mother’s are being saved through knowledge and hard work by midwives like Gladys

Now a days we don’t lose mothers with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Everybody is active and everybody has the knowledge of how to handle a mother with PPH, so we have reduced the deaths to PPH.”
Gladys

Labor and Delivery Midwife and Leader of Birth with Dignity Team, Mbale Regional Referral Hospital

Gladys is also known as the leader who will get out of bed when she hears a mother has hemorrhaged, walk to the blood bank to get blood and then walk it to the hospital and deliver it to labor and delivery. She has saved mothers who were on the brink of death from hemorrhage and low hemoglobin with her actions and tireless advocacy for the patient.
